Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, has disclosed that government will soon revamp the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex and build 10 Multi-purpose youth centers nationwide with sporting facilities for over 15 sport.0
He made this statement during the Stakeholders Forum which was organised by the ministry on Thursday 14th December, 2017 at the Accra International Conference Centre as part of efforts to establish the National Sports Development Fund.
Speaking at the forum, Mr. Asiamah clearly stated that “The Ministry for Youth and Sports will transform the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex and will build 10 Multi-purpose Youth Centers nationwide with sporting facilities for over 15 sports”.
The Azumah Nelson Sports Complex, formerly known as the Kaneshie Sports Complex, was built in the 1970s but over the years, it has not seen any major upgrades and it is currently in a very a deplorable state.
The facility has a football pitch and courts for basketball, handball and tennis. It also has offices for the administrators of the facility.
But Isaac Asiamah said things will be different this time around.
The Sports Fund when established will also help facilitate growth and development of the sports industry in the country.
In addition, the funds will be used to train the necessary sports personnel and support the cash award scheme for the purpose of enhancing competitiveness among the country’s sports men and women.
