The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has outlined activities for Ghana’s 68th Independence anniversary, set to commence with the commemoration of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident on Friday, February 28, 2025.

According to a statement from the committee, the celebrations will feature a nationwide school quiz final on Sunday, March 2, 2025, followed by a debate competition on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

President John Mahama is scheduled to host the annual School Children Awards Programme on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, leading up to the grand ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the presidency on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

Ahead of the 28th February event, the Communications Subcommittee of the NCPC will roll out historical and educational content to increase public awareness and engagement.

“With this new approach, we hope to reset the interest and participation of the youth and the general populace in this significant national event whilst remembering and honouring our heroes,” the committee stated.

An X-space conversation on the theme “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present” will also be held as part of the celebrations.

The committee urged the media to amplify discussions on the anniversary theme to enhance public participation.

A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Nationalism Park at 8 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, with a live broadcast across multiple platforms.

The statement, signed by Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, called on stakeholders to support the anniversary.

“We encourage the media, bloggers, and the public to actively participate by sharing information with your viewers, listeners, and readers,” it concluded.
