Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Sam Nartey George, has accused the government of being a direct beneficiary of the newly increased tariffs of the telcos.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Friday, Sam George said the government was a direct beneficiary of the increases.

“The government should be blamed for the imminent increase in the telcos’ tariffs and not the telcos since this looks more like an imposition they [the telcos] have to just abide by”, he said.
The member of the Communications Committee in Parliament said the telcos were being overtaxed and since they cannot bear the cost alone and because it is a consumer tax, the customers have to bear the cost even though there will be no changes in the call rate and data charges of the telcos.

“The investments of these telcos are in dollars but their revenues are in cedis so they are even losing since the cedi is depreciating and cannot bear enough cost for the consumers,” he explained.
