Government losing its fight against corruption – GII official

Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Linda Ofori Kwafo, has suggested that the Akufo-Addo led government may be losing the fight against corruption.

According to Mrs Kwafo the passage of the Right to Information Bill (RTI), for example would have been a good a step to the government’s bid to fighting corruption.

“The RTI is a fundamental human right guaranteed by the Constitution and is recognised as a right by international conventions on human rights. The Right to Information Bill has to be passed; it has kept too long for this country to pass the law,” she stated.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, “Dwaso Nsem” Tuesday she noted that lack of transparency was a major hindrance to fighting corruption.

“We didn’t receive any report on investigations on specific cases of corruption involving public officers, politically-exposed persons, as well as individuals in the private sector implicated in corrupt practices from the Prosecutor’s office,” she noted.
