To improve the operations of the Births and Deaths Registry, the government has hinted at providing more resources to the agency.
This commitment was made by the Minister of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, during a visit to the registry to familiarize himself with their operations.
The Minister’s visit was part of a broader effort to address the challenges facing agencies under his ministry.
He was accompanied by his team, who are touring various outfits to identify areas where government intervention is needed.
During the visit, the minister expressed concern about the lack of resources and infrastructure at the registry, which is responsible for storing vital data spanning over 90 years. He noted that the agency’s IT infrastructure is in need of upgrading to prevent data loss and ensure efficient service delivery.
“We are committed to supporting the Births and Deaths Registry to enhance their operations,” the minister assured. “We will work on providing them with the necessary resources, including a befitting office complex, to enable them to deliver better services to the public.”
The Minister’s visit was also an opportunity to interact with members of the public who were at the registry to register births and deaths.
He assured them that the government is working to decentralize the system to reduce the congestion at the registry and make the process more efficient.
“We are discussing ways to broaden the work and add more resources to enable the registry to serve the public better. We will also ensure that the registry has a comfortable and conducive environment for the public to access their services” the Minister said.
The Births and Deaths Registry is a critical agency responsible for registering vital events such as births, deaths, marriages, and divorces.
The agency’s operations are crucial for national development, as they provide essential data for planning and policy-making.
The government’s commitment to enhancing the operations of the Births and Deaths Registry is a welcome development, as it will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the agency’s services.
This, in turn, will benefit the public and support national development.
