The Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bui-Kunuto Soale Jewu, in consultation with the Sonyowura and his elders, has lifted the suspension on Damongo MP and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Abu Jinapor.
This announcement was made on Monday, August 2, 2024, granting Mr. Jinapor the freedom to visit all Gonja palaces.
The Yagbonwura had previously imposed the ban, citing a breach of tradition and respect.
Traditional leaders in West Gonja had accused the minister of interfering in local matters that should be resolved within traditional frameworks.
They argued that Mr. Jinapor’s actions caused widespread discontent and disaffection among the people.
In a press conference, the Yagbonwura’s interpreters emphasized the seriousness of the situation, warning that any chief who permitted Mr. Jinapor entry into their palace during the suspension would face severe consequences.
However, after careful deliberation and consultation, the Yagbonwura and his elders decided to lift the ban, allowing Mr. Jinapor to resume his visits to Gonja palaces.
