Gomoa East MP petitions OSP over alleged election bribery scandal

-

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa East, Desmond Degraft Paitoo, has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate alleged bribery involving officials of the Electoral Commission (EC).

The allegations stem from a leaked audio recording purportedly capturing EC officials conspiring with NPP parliamentary candidate Kojo Asemenyi to manipulate the 2024 elections in his favor.

“What my client seeks from the Office of the Special Prosecutor is straightforward. There are two key individuals involved: Mr. Asemenyi, a private individual contesting the upcoming elections, and Abdulai Isahaku, an EC officer.

“As a public officer, Mr. Isahaku has engaged in corrupt practices aimed at altering the will of the people to benefit Mr. Asemenyi. The laws are explicit regarding such matters, especially those falling within the OSP’s mandate related to election integrity.

“We firmly believe a crime has been committed, and it is the OSP’s duty to investigate and prosecute these individuals,” stated the MP’s legal representative, Aggrey Flynn Amissah.

The petition further urges the Special Prosecutor to ensure that the implicated EC officials are held accountable under the law.

It also calls for the officials to recuse themselves from representing the EC in Gomoa East, as their impartiality has been compromised.

Additionally, the MP’s legal team has written to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, requesting swift action on the matter.
