Rachel Appoh, the former Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has stated that members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency and Central Region will not be cowed into silence by the intimidating tactics of their opponents.
Addressing a gathering of constituency executives, polling station executives, and members of the party in the constituency, Rachel Appoh decried what she observes to be acts of intimidation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and musician Kwame Asare Obeng, known widely as A-Plus.
The former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection noted that, the NDC has consistently refrained from responding to acts of violence as the party believes in the rule of law.
She, however, sounded a caution to the opponents and security agencies that the party and its members will be forced to take measures to protect themselves if steps are not taken to address the problem.
Rachel Appoh charged the NDC members not to be scared by the actions of their opponents and to go all out and campaign for John Dramani Mahama and Kwame Deen Yawson, who is the parliamentary candidate.
Rachel Appoh reaffirmed her commitment to the protection of peace but warned that the NDC will not shy away from protecting their rights in the face of intimidation and violence.
“Every election we suffer intimidation and violence and we don’t respond because we want to protect the peace being enjoyed in the constituency. This year I have seen and heard of the acts of violence being perpetrated by our opponents, but I want to assure you all to remain steadfast and continue the campaign for Kwame Yawson and John Mahama.
“I want to warn the NPP and Kwame A-Plus that we are not afraid of anybody. If they bring violence, we will match them boot for boot. We are not going to allow them to intimidate us again. We will fight to protect our rights and the constitution of Ghana. The will of the people must prevail in the elections and we know that the will of Ghanaians is to see John Mahama at the presidency and Kwame Yawson in Parliament,” Rachel Appoh said amid claps and cheers from the crowd.
Rachel Appoh encouraged the gathering to go all out and sell the good policies of the NDC, which is headlined by the 24-hour economy.
She explained that, the policy will be the panacea for the high unemployment rate in the country and urged Ghanaians to trust the NDC.
