Goldbod is the game changer against gold smuggling – Sammy Gyamfi

The Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Sammy Gyamfi, has described the Goldbod initiative as a game changer that will decisively tackle gold smuggling in Ghana.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, he explained that the initiative is designed to ensure Ghana benefits from its mineral wealth while curbing illegal gold trade.

“This is about protecting our national wealth, and we are fully committed to making Goldbod a game-changer in the fight against illegal gold trade,” he said.

Mr. Gyamfi expressed concerns over Ghana’s losses due to gold smuggling and illicit transactions.

“Gold smuggling has robbed Ghana of billions in revenue, and we cannot allow this to continue. Goldbod will wage an aggressive war against this illegal activity, ensuring that every ounce of gold extracted benefits the nation,” he stated.

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) noted that Goldbod would operate with enhanced mechanisms and regulatory frameworks to curb smuggling.

He added that engagements with relevant stakeholders are ongoing to ensure an all-inclusive approach, pledging collaboration with security agencies, mining firms, and international partners.

“We are not taking this lightly. There will be tighter controls at our borders, enhanced tracking systems, and increased penalties for offenders,” he assured.

Mr. Gyamfi also emphasized that Goldbod would prioritize transparency and accountability in the gold sector to prevent illicit dealings.
