The Nurse Manager of Goaso Municipal Hospital in the Ahafo Region, Madam Andrina Kesse, has expressed concerns about the challenges faced by relatives of patients due to the absence of a designated lodge at the facility.
In an interview with Adom News correspondent Sammy Asare, Madam Kesse revealed that the lack of accommodation for caretakers forces them to sleep on the floor or chairs from the day of admission until the patient is discharged.
She described the sleeping conditions as harsh, citing mosquito bites, noise, and inadequate rest spaces as contributing factors to the uncomfortable experience for relatives.
She urged companies, NGOs, and individuals to assist in providing a dedicated lodge for caretakers to improve their well-being during their stay at the hospital.
Additionally, Madam Kesse highlighted the hospital’s struggles with its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Despite having well-trained nurses and necessary equipment, the limited space in the NICU forces the hospital to refer many newborns to other hospitals for critical care.
She called on the government and benevolent organizations to support the expansion of the NICU to accommodate more babies in need of urgent medical attention.
