Goalkeeper Richard Ofori arrives in South Africa to sign for AmaZulu

Ghana goalkeeper, Richard Ofori has arrived in South Africa to finalize a move to PLS side, AmaZulu as a free agent.

Ofori, who parted ways with Orlando Pirates after his contract expired in June 2024, has been training on his own throughout the summer in preparation for his next challenge.

The 30-year-old has been a prominent figure in South African football since 2018, starting his journey with Maritzburg United, where he quickly became one of the league’s standout goalkeepers.

His performances at Maritzburg earned him a move to Orlando Pirates, one of South Africa’s most prestigious clubs.

During his time with the Pirates, Ofori was pivotal in their MTN 8 Cup triumph, playing a key role in their 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic in the final, which ended the club’s six-year wait for a major trophy.

Across his career with both Maritzburg and Pirates, Ofori has made over 100 appearances.

He embarks on a new chapter with AmaZulu, a team looking to improve on their 11th-place finish last season and qualify for the MTN 8 competition by securing a top-eight spot.

With 33 international caps for Ghana, Ofori brings a wealth of experience to his new club. He aims to help AmaZulu replicate their strong 2021/22 form, when they finished as MTN 8 runners-up and reached the group stages of the CAF Champions League.

Ofori’s last appearance for the Ghana national team came at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in a match against Mozambique.
