GIZ supports 80 youth with start-up kits in Bono Region

The EU-Germany-Ghana Joint Action, a project focused on jobs, migration, and development, has partnered with the former Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to provide skills training and start-up kits to 80 young people in the Bono Region.

Bono Regional Labour Officer, Charles Baah, stated that the initiative is designed to promote self-employment, create job opportunities, and empower the youth, ultimately helping to curb irregular migration and unemployment in the country.

The beneficiaries, comprising 30 males and 50 females, underwent a three-month training program in various vocational fields, including cosmetology, wig making, dressmaking and fashion design, Plaster of Paris (POP) installation, solar panel installation, and barbering.

At the end of the program, all 80 participants received certificates in Sunyani, the Bono regional capital.

Alice Claridge, Project Manager for the EU-Germany-Ghana Joint Action, revealed that around 500 young Ghanaians across five regions have benefited from the initiative, with an additional 300 currently undergoing training.

She emphasized that the program aligns with GIZ’s broader strategy to create decent jobs, address youth unemployment, and encourage entrepreneurship while discouraging irregular migration.
