GITMO 2 refugee status: Mahama lied to Ghanaians over GITMO 2 arrangements – Lawyer

-

Former President John Dramani Mahama has been accused of lying to Ghanaians over the agreement the government entered with the US Government in accepting the two Guantanamo-bay detainees into the country.
According to a private legal practitioner, Nana Sarpong Baffour Awuah Agyei the former president and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) government officials lied to the entire population for failing to tell Ghanaians the details involved in the agreement it entered with the US government.
“The previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government led by ex-president Mahama deceived Ghanaians on the details of the agreement before accepting the two Guantanamo Bay prisoners” he said.
The Counsel for Margaret Bamful and Henry Nana Boakye who sued the previous Attorney General and Minister of Justice as well as the Minister of Interior, accusing government of illegally bringing in the two former Gitmo detainees, without recourse to the laws of the land was speaking Wednesday on Adom FM’s Burning Issues programme hosted by Afia Pokua.

He stated that the intention of the then government was to integrate the detainees into the Ghanaian society which they failed to reveal to the Supreme Court as well as the entire citizenry.
His comment follows revelation by the Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey that no discussion of an exit plan between Ghana and the US government after the expiration of the two detainees stay in Ghana, and the refugee status granted by the previous administration.
But Nana Sarpong Baffour Agyei Awuah has cautioned Ghanaians not to allow politicians to take them for granted considering how politicians took the security of Ghanaians for granted and lied to them about the status of the two detainees.
He says Ghana’s democracy failed under president Mahama for taking such a decision to ruin the security of the citizenry.
