GHPL match week five: Five things we learned

-

The matchday five of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League recorded some stunning results at the various stadia with Hearts and Kotoko returning to winning ways.

Here are five things we learned from week five.

Berekum Chelsea maintain perfect start

Chelsea were hosted by Ashgold at the Len Clay Sports Stadium on Saturday. The home side were hoping to maintain their unbeaten home record against the Blues.

However, Kofi Owusu scored the only goal of the game to propel them to the top of the table.

The Berekum based side have been the giants killers so far in the league after beating Hearts and Kotoko at the own turf. They are yet to lose a game this season.

Kotoko pile more misery on Dwarfs

16-year-old Matthew Cudjoe scored as Asante Kotoko ended a run of two straight defeats by beating Ebusua Dwarfs 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The game was played behind closed doors as Kotoko are serving a five-match ban for fans disturbances in last weekend’s clash against Berekum Chelsea.

Following the exit of Robert Asibu as the head coach of the club, Ernest Thompson was hoping to turn things around the club.

However, Cudjoe opened the scoring in the 83rd minute with a fine effort into bottom left corner before Richard Arthur sealed the win two minutes later. Dwarfs are yet to win a game this season.

Hearts tame Liberty Professionals at Dansoman

The Phobian club seem to have finally found their rhythm in after struggling to win their first two matches. After picking a point from Sogakope in midweek against WAFA, Edward Nii Odoom led his charges to the Carl Reindorf Park.

Michael Sefah broke the deadlock for the home side in the early minute of the game. However, Bernard Kwame Arthur levelled his side in the dying minute of the game before Kofi Kordzi sealed the win for the club.

Dreams halt Medeama’s dream start

After losing to Berekum Chelsea in midweek, Dreams FC hosted high-flying Medeama at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu.

Ibrahim Issah scored the only goal for the side as Samuel Boadu’s side suffer their first defeat of the season.

Yahaya Mohammed continue fines as Aduana sink Legon Cities FC

Aduana Stars returned to winning ways with striker Yahaya Mohammed scoring another goal for his side against Legon Cities FC.

The Royal Blues as still in search for their first win in the ongoing season.

The former Asante Kotoko put his side ahead before Noah Martey made thing difficult for the Accra based side.

Yahaya Mohammed is leading goalscorers chart with six goals.
