Ghana’s movie industry is in coma – Mikki Osei Berko

Actor and Omankrado of Affumkrom, Mikki Osei Berko, also known as Dada Boat, insists that Ghana’s movie industry is far from dead, despite widespread perceptions.
During an interview on Joy Prime’s Changes show with Roselyn Felli, he shared that the industry is struggling but still alive, describing its condition as “in a coma and needs medication.”
He stressed that the industry’s revival hinges on effective policies and adequate training.
“Government should get involved because it’s an important part of the economy we cannot underestimate,” he added, emphasizing the need for structured policies that would guide industry players and create opportunities.
Dada Boat also expressed frustration with the dominance of foreign content on local media channels, particularly Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), calling it a major barrier to the industry’s progress.
“If it’s not stopped, one day I’ll have a one-man demonstration to help stop it because it’s killing our industry and economy,” he declared. He proposed that television stations be mandated by legislative instrument (L.I) to increase the frequency of local content.
