Some Ghanaians have registered their displeasure at their Members of Parliament (MPs) after plans to construct a new $200 million 450-seater parliamentary chamber was announced by the government.
The planned construction was announced last Friday when members of the Parliamentary Service Board received a model for the proposed new Chamber.
“We all think that the facility should not exceed a certain amount; that is $200 million. We are looking at anything between $150 million and $200 million,” Mr Kyei Mensa-Bonsu, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs said.

But, many Ghanaians, including celebrities, have lambasted the government saying the new Chamber doesn’t add to the list of Ghana’s priorities in terms of development.
The detractive tweets have been championed with the #DropThatChamber and #ItwillNotHappen hashtags on Twitter and are making waves.
