Ghanaian pastors divided over Rwanda’s demolition of unfit church buildings

Some pastors in Ghana are divided on Rwanda government’s demolition of unfit structures serving as church buildings.

The Rwandan government has reportedly set up the Rwanda Governance Board and assigned it the duty to close down and demolish all church building which are not fit for purpose.

CEO of Public Sector Reforms, Kusi Boafo visited Rwanda and has been telling Adom News that about 700 churches have been closed down in Rwanda for failing to comply with building regulations.

According to him, there is a proposed new law in Rwanda that says all preachers must have theological training before opening a church.

However, Head Pastor of Assemblies of God House of Mercy Church, Rev. Charles Koomson has kicked against the move by the Rwandan government.

He said humble beginnings lead to greater heights so there is nothing wrong for a church to start small before having its own building.

But Director of Abeka Catholic Church, Rev. Pious Agyeman supports what is happening in Rwanda.

He said people are abusing the freedom of religion in the constitution so it is time authorities stepped up to the plate and sanitize the system.

He called for more checks by the Christian Council to ensure the right things are done.

Adom News also spoke with some Ghanaians who thought the Rwandan government did not do well because “everything starts with a humble beginning before growing.”
