Ghana Weightlifting Federation postpones Elective Congress indefinitely

-

The Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) has announced the indefinite postponement of its highly anticipated Elective Congress, which was initially scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 24, and signed by Secretary-General Benjamin Addy, the Federation cited concerns over the integrity of the delegates’ list as the primary reason for the delay.

Several stakeholders have raised questions about the transparency of the electoral process, prompting leadership to take immediate action.

To address these concerns, the Elections Committee is collaborating with the National Sports Authority (NSA) to thoroughly verify and finalize the list of eligible delegates.

Meanwhile, the President of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA), Mr. Khaled Mehalhel, has indicated his intention to send an observer to oversee the elections.

The GWF has welcomed this initiative, calling it a vital step toward enhancing the credibility and transparency of the electoral process.

The Federation has assured its members that a new date for the Elective Congress will be communicated once all outstanding issues have been resolved and preparations are complete.
