The Ghana Shippers Authority has held a stakeholder engagement with a cross-section of trade Associations to discuss the operational framework of the newly passed Ghana Shippers Authority Law.
The meeting aimed to clarify the law’s provisions, address concerns, and ensure a smooth implementation that benefits all stakeholders.
The Ghana Shippers Authority assured the Associations of their commitment to collaboration and fair enforcement, ensuring a conducive business environment for all.
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Kofi Ahenkora Marfo, said the law is expected to make Ghana a preferred transit trade channel for its landlocked neighbours and enhance revenue contribution to the national purse.
He added that, the new law has empowered the Ghana Shippers Authority to adapt to emerging trends and complexities within the shipping and logistics industry, protect the interests of shippers and shipping service providers, and improve its regulatory oversight of the entire industry.
Representatives of trade Associations, including the Ghana Union of Traders, the Association of Ghana Industries, and others, have expressed optimism that the newly passed Ghana Shippers Authority Law will bring significant benefits to their businesses.
They hope the law will reduce unfair charges and costs, increase transparency in port fees and charges, improve efficiency and competitiveness in the shipping industry, and enhance Ghana’s reputation as a preferred trade hub in the region.
Association representatives praised the Ghana Shippers Authority for engaging with them and look forward to a collaborative implementation process that addresses their concerns and promotes their interests.
