Ghana practices ‘constitutional dictatorship’ – Highlife legend George Jahraa says [Video]

-

Highlife musician, George Jahraa says he supports calls for Ghana’s Constitution to be amended.

According to him, it gives too much power and free will to the President.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s weekend Entertainment Hall show, the ‘Ashikele’ hitmaker said ex-President Jerry John Rawlings influenced the Constitution and as a soldier.

Mr Jahraa believes it was not drafted to favour the development of the people.

He told the host, Mike 2, that Ghana practices what he calls ‘constitutional dictatorship’ because the Constitution only protects those in power.

“A soldier drafted our constitution, so personally I see it as a constitutional dictatorship… it gives free will to whoever is president. Even though the president didn’t do the constitution, he had influence on it. We have to amend it so we can have more checks and balances… it’s more like free will. I won’t resist the temptation of telling you I told you so,” he said.
