Ghana Police retreat, agree to provide security for #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse protest

-

The Ghana Police Service has reversed its earlier stance and agreed to provide security for the upcoming #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse protest, despite initially securing an injunction from the High Court to halt the demonstration.

The injunction was filed by Chief Inspector Richard Asamoah from the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters on September 17, 2024.

In a recent update, the Police have assured the public that they are fully prepared to maintain law and order during the planned protest by the Democracy Hub Group, which is scheduled to take place from September 21 to 23, 2024.

The protest will be held at Revolution Square, located across Liberation Road, opposite Jubilee House.

The Ghana Police Service has stated that further details on security measures for the demonstration will be provided on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

The Democracy Hub Group initially announced their plans for a three-day demonstration on July 15, 2024.

Their protest aims to highlight critical national issues, including socio-economic injustice, unemployment, rising poverty, state capture, nepotism, corruption, and the need for judicial independence.

The group has confirmed that they followed the proper legal procedures by formally notifying the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, in compliance with the Public Order Act.
