Ghana News – One person remanded over drinking spot robbery

A member of a robbery gang that attacked a drinking spot – “Janet and Sons” at Krofrom in Kumasi, was on Tuesday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court.

James Kwabena Appiah, alias “Dada James”, is charged with conspiracy and robbery.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded into prison custody, to make his next appearance on Tuesday, February 21.

Four of his accomplices, whose names were given as Chief, Ayew, Kobbie and Baffour are on the run and the police have launched a manhunt to arrest and bring them to justice.

Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah told the court, presided over by Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire, that the incident happened on December 27, last year.

The accused and his fugitive colleagues, armed with knives, struck at about 2300 hours.

The prosecution said Abdul Raman, who had gone to drinking spot with a friend, had his mobile phone valued at GHȼ1,500.00 seized.

A formal report was made to the police and investigations led to the arrest of Appiah on January 08.
