An aggrieved footsoldier of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yakubu Tony Aidoo has said that the party lost the 2016 elections months before the event was held.
The scrap dealer speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Tuesday opined that the party lost the elections after they voted against the crop of executives who worked to bring the party into power in 2008 and 2012.
“NDC lost the elections even before December when it was organized…main reason is that the constituency executives who worked for victory in 2008 and 2012 were voted against in internal elections as a result of lies told against them…some 80% constituency executives lost their positions, same happened at the regional and at the national level, the people who brought the party to power were also changed…,” he said.
The unfortunate thing that happened to the NDC, he said was the fact that most of the executives at the time were kicked out because their competitors lied against them adding that ‘this was unfortunate because politics is about experience.’
“I warned them that 2016 elections was not national service but no one paid heed to what I said. If the old executives had been retained, NDC would have won the election but we lied against them…Yaw Boateng Gyan, Dr Kwabena Adjei were all changed because people lied against them…,” he said.
According to Yakubu Tony Aidoo, his beef was that most the new executives who won the internal elections were mediocre and knew little about the game of politics.
The NDC lost the 2016 elections by pulling 44.4% of valid votes as against NPP’s 53.8%.
The party has since set up a committee to investigate the reasons that led to the party losing the elections.
The committee is set to meet with various stakeholders of the party at the constituency and ward levels.
