Minority Chip Whip has expressed shock at what he says are wild allegations leveled against Parliament’s Appointment Committee by Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga.
Hon Muntaka Mubarak stated unequivocally that, he never received any money from the Chairman of the Committee, Joe Osei-Wusu as it is being alleged.
Mahama Ayariga when he appeared before the Joe Ghartey investigating the bribery allegation on Committee Monday, February 20, 2017, insisted that Hon Muntaka was used as a conduit to bribe the Minority members on the Appointment Committee.
He indicated that, the Asawase MP when the rumour went viral that Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko had given each member GH¢ 3000 as bribe for his approval, confronted Hon Muntaka who told him Mr. Osei-Wusu gave him the money.
Though Mahama Ayariga conceded that he did not have evidence to back the claim made by Accra-based Radio Gold, he together with other Minority members returned his money to Hon, Muntaka to send it back to the sender.
But Muntaka Mubarak reacting to the issue said he was really taken aback because “I had never had any discussions with anyone”.
This he explained is because “that had never happened and I was shocked from where he was getting that information. I had never discussed an issue of the said money coming from the Chairman”.
The Asawase MP indicated that Mahama Ayariga did not return any money to his office as he claims since “no money was given to him”.
“No such money was given to anybody so how could it be returned?” he told the Joe Ghartey-led committee.
The Minority Chief Whip stated that “I have never met him anywhere, he has never sent anyone to me, he has never called me before”.
Muntaka Mubarak said he finds it difficult to interact with his “best friend” Mahama Ayariga after the ‘concocted’ allegations.
