Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini says the Flagstaff House requires some renovations done on it before it can be habitable.
The former Roads and Transport Minister said the former president John Mahama had wanted to move into the presidential accommodation available but could not do so due to structural defects in the building.
“The property, as built by the Indians sufferered serious structural defects, so there was the need to put them in shape.
“The former president indicated time again that he wanted to move into the Flagstaff House but they needed to correct the structural defects,” he added.
The building which was completed in 2008 is yet to be occupied by any sitting president due to concerns about structural defects and security.
Though the residency underwent refurbishment in 2013, former president Mahama chose to stay in the official vice president bungalow.
Mr Fuseini says the defects identified on the building must be fixed to give comfort to the president.
However, Information Minister-designate Mustapha Hamid, speaking on Newsfile said President Akufo Addo might move into the presidential accommodation.
“I am sure that at a point in time he will move in there,” he said.
Meanwhile, Joy News is learning former president Mahama is packing out of the cantonment official residence but it is unknown where he will be staying now and the security measures taken in the new house.
