Ghana News – Fire guts Navrongo police barracks; kills one month old baby

-

A fire outbreak at the Navrongo police barracks in the Kasena-Nankana municipality of the Upper East Region has left a one-month-old baby dead.

It is unclear what caused the fire which gutted the home of a female police officer working at the said police station.

According to reports,  at the time of the fire, the officer whose name is being withheld had gone to attend to nature’s call Sunday morning at the barracks toilet facility situated outside the home.

The one-month-old baby who was sleeping in the room suffered high degree burns in the fire died upon arrival at the hospital.

Our source says the mother of the baby is traumatized and is currently being consoled by her colleagues.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer in the Upper East Region, Douglas Koyiri confirmed this unfortunate story to Adom

He said all properties in the four bedroom house were burnt and it took them about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Mr. Koyiri blamed the residents at the barrack who failed to alert them immediately the fire begun.

Meanwhile, the charred body of the one-month-old baby has been deposited at the Navrongo government hospital morgue pending investigations.
