Former Secretary to Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. K. B Asante has stated that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah would still have been overthrown if he stayed in Ghana.
According to him, Ghanaians would be wrong to blame him for leaving the country because he needed to address civil war issues in another country.
“Kwame Nkrumah’s overthrow was bound to happen. What will happen, will happen and so I will not blame him. There were indeed no signs of coup till he travelled and in knew at that time that he needed to travel to solve the civil war issues in some country” he said.
Dr. K. B Asante was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen Friday to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the overthrow of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah.
He said Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, was a forerunner in the fight for Ghana’s independence in 1957, by forming the new era of African unity, a fight he was leading until February 24, 1966.
Dr. Asante does not believe think that the aspirations of Nkrumah went down with him to the grave if Ghanaians cannot live a much happier life today.
Ghanaians’ standard of living is he noted is deteriorating, and a far cry from comfortable and happy lives they lived some years ago.
