Ghana News – Audio: KTI riot: Students urged to return to school

-

Principal of the Kumasi Technical Institute in the Ashanti Region has given assurance to both parents and students that they are safe one week after clashes between some of the students and the Police which left fourteen of them injured.

His call comes on the back of students of KTI who were severally assaulted by the police on Tuesday.

Police say the students went on rampage after winning Inter Schools and Colleges competition (Interco) and vandalized police patrol cars, blocked roads and pelted stones at police.

The students accused the police of firing live bullets and tear gas.

But the Minster of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh accused Supt Klormegah and ASP Tanko of telling lies about the brutalities calling on the IGP to transfer the two from the region.

According to him, the two have been peddling falsehood that policemen on duty did not fire guns as speculated by the aggrieved students.

He has therefore assured the students and authorities of the Kumasi Technical Institute that an investigation was going to be conducted into the clash between the students and the police.

But Principal of the school, Dr. Abeiku Apre, appealed to the students to return to school as classes have resumed.

“We are assuring them that they are safe and secured in our hands and the school. We just want to tell them that classes have started and that they should come to school especially the day students” he said.

However, 48 students who were arrested in the incident were all granted bail last Friday.
