The Paramount chief of Owirenchiman Traditional Area in Assin Kushea, Ehunabobrim Otekokoso Pra Agyinsem VI has promised to help each family in the town with five poultry birds as a measure of reducing poverty in his community.

The chief speaking with Adom News’ Alfred Amoh said, the 25 families will be selected and given five chicks for the pilot programme and would cover the entire town if successful.

The motive for this initiative, Ehunabobrim Otekokoso Pra Agyinsem VI is in line with government’s one-district-one factory policy to make the people in the area self-sufficient.

“Gaining employment here is quite difficult especially with women. I am taking 25 families. I will give each of them five chickens. Rearing them well can help the town. If you have five chickens and each of them lays 8 eggs at least that is even 40 eggs. The profit can help the family in a way…” he said.

The Chief also revealed that they have established their own poultry farms to supply eggs for the community which ahs also created employment for the youth thus will be happy if they get support from government to expand it.

“We have two factories producing quail eggs. We deal with poultry and eggs. We pray the government helps us in any way he can we don’t need huge factories but any small scale factory isn’t bad…” he added.

Ehunabobrim Otekokoso Pra Agyinsem VI advised his colleague chiefs not to be over-dependent on government but rather, think outside the box to create employment for the vulnerable in their area.
