The Ghana Micro-finance Institutions Network has condemned the act of brutality meted out to a nursing mother at the Shiashie branch of Midland Savings and Loans Company.
Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor was captured in a video that has gone viral, brutally assaulting Patience Osafo who was at the bank to withdraw her savings.

In the video, the police officer, who was armed with an assault rifle, is seen striking the woman who had her baby in her arms, multiple times on the head, first, with an umbrella and later with his fists.
The officer also attempted to drag her out of the banking hall, violently as she held on to the baby with the officer still kicking and shoving.

Counsel Chairman of Ghana Micro-finance Institutions Network, Collins Amponsah Mensah, speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show Dwaso Nsem Monday, said the customer did not do anything to warrant the treatment meted out to her.
The action of the Police Officer, he noted, was uncalled for and therefore entreated the Police Service to deal decisively with him in accordance with law.

Mr Mensah added that the financial institution should be made to equally face the law for allowing such a thing to happen on their premises.
“It’s [the brutality] unfortunate and the culprit should be dealt with. People should stop tagging savings and loans as violent because we are not. Management of the institution should also be punished for allowing such a thing to happen to a client or anybody on their premises”, he said.
