Ghana Health Service has issued a nationwide cholera alert and places all regional directorates on high alert.

The Ghana health Service has issued a nationwide cholera alert and placed all regional directorates of the service on high alert.

The service is directing its officials in the regions to step up surveillance with the onset of the rains.

The directive signed by the head of the Ghana health service, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the risk factors include:

  • Poor Sanitation
  • Poor Food and Personal Hygiene
  • Inadequate supply of Water
  • Intense Population Movement.

However, the GHS has directed all its offices and regional branches to step up surveillance of

  • Diarrhea and cholera cases
  • Emergency preparations and response plans on diarrhea and cholera
  • Public education on prevention
  • Initiate advocacy dialogue with MMDA’s, Water Sector and other institution for the provision of social services such as water and sanitation.
