Ghana Boxing Authority bans 3 coaches for misconduct

-

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has banned three coaches for misconducting themselves during a boxing match.

Trainer for Isaac Sackey, Vincent Akai and his two deputies,  Osmanu Nii  Armah Brew and John Klottey are the three coaches who have been banned.

On October 13, 2018, Isaac Sackey took on Mohammed Wasiru in a WBO African Tittle fight at the Bukom  Boxing Arena but the bout ended in chaos after the referee stopped the fight to give Mohammed Wasiru a Technical Knockout decision.

Incensed at losing their unbeaten record and WBO Africa title in what they perceived to be a manner that was unfair from the referee, the coaches rushed into the ring to attack the Beninois ring official.

Their actions were followed by fans of both boxers joining in the ensuing melee to cause disorder and destruction of facilities inside the Sports Emporium Hall of the Bukom Boxing Arena in the Ghanaian capital, Accra.

Such was the chaos and lack of safety that everybody scrambled for an escape route out of the venue including the WBO officials, supervisors, ring officials, Ghana Boxing Authority chiefs and even the boxers.

The chaos meant fans went home without an official declaration and coronation of the winner.

After several weeks of investigations, however, the GBA has handed the three coaches who started the confusions bans that take effect from December 1, 2018.
