The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied claims purporting an attack on the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu in Bawku of the Upper East Region.
GAF has dismissed viral videos from the alleged attack as false and should be treated with the contempt that they deserve.
In a statement, GAF confirmed that Major General Gbetanu visited Bawku on Wednesday, April 23, as part of a scheduled operational tour, and it was peaceful.
“COAS’ operational visit to Bawku on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, was successful and no negative incident was recorded,” the statement noted.
Admonishing media outlets, bloggers, and other content creators to verify information before publication, GAF noted that investigations are underway to identify and prosecute the originators of the videos.
“GAF once again wishes to caution bloggers, content creators, and the media at large to be circumspect in their reportage on GAF operations, especially in Bawku,” the statement added.
