GHA Senior Staff declare another nationwide strike over unmet demands

-

The Senior Staff Association of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike, effective December 2, 2024.

The decision follows the government’s failure to address grievances related to the contentious National Roads Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1118), and other critical concerns.

In a letter dated November 20, 2024, signed by Emmanuel Asina, the Association’s National Vice Chairman, the group informed the National Labour Commission of its decision.

The strike was described as a last resort after multiple unsuccessful attempts to resolve their issues.

The workers have called for urgent attention to their demands, stressing the need for stakeholder consultations, adherence to constitutional processes, and leadership reforms at the GHA.

Key Demands:

  3. Conduct Fresh Consultations: Initiate agency-wide consultations guided by the 2022 World Bank-assisted Diagnostic Study for Transforming the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA).
  4. Leadership Restructuring: Remove Ing. I. K. Mensah, GHA Board Chairman, and Ing. Collins B. Donkor (retired), the GHA Chief Executive, from their positions.

The workers have served notice to the National Labour Commission that if their demands are not met by November 29, 2024, they will proceed with the strike in accordance with the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).
