GFA will ring changes in Black Stars technical team – Henry Asante Twum

-

The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed impending changes to the Black Stars’ technical team.

Reports suggest that assistant coaches John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann could be shown the exit as part of efforts to restructure the team ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which are set to resume in March.

In an interview with Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum acknowledged that adjustments will be made but stopped short of naming specific individuals.

“At the last Executive Council meeting, it was a subject that was thoroughly discussed, and a number of suggestions came up. Aside from the head coach [Otto Addo], the input and contributions of the assistant coaches were discussed since they came on board in March last year.

“All the work of the backroom staff was analyzed and discussed, and eventually, it was decided that some changes would be made. But specifically, I cannot confirm who will leave. Three people were given a task to return to the Executive Council with certain recommendations.”

He emphasized the urgency of the decision, saying, “A decision was made to bring changes to the technical team, but in terms of the personalities, I cannot confirm. The decision will be made very soon because there is no time for the team, as we are playing World Cup qualifiers in March. So, if you are bringing in new faces, that has to be done on time so they can settle down before the next phase of the qualifiers.”

Under head coach Otto Addo, assisted by John Paintsil, Joseph Laumann, and Fatau Dauda, the Black Stars endured a disappointing campaign, failing to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in two decades.

The team managed three defeats and three draws in six qualifying games.

John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann joined the technical team in March 2024, replacing George Boateng and Didi Dramani as assistant coaches.
