The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans for further stakeholder engagements to determine the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.
This decision follows a technical review meeting held on Wednesday, November 27, between the GFA and the 47-year-old coach.
The discussions came in the wake of Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Otto Addo, who previously served as an assistant coach at Borussia Dortmund, faced widespread criticism after failing to secure a single victory in six qualifying matches. Despite calls for his dismissal, the GFA has opted for broader consultations to chart the path forward.
In a statement released after the meeting, the GFA acknowledged the nation’s disappointment with the team’s performance and emphasized the urgent need for improved results, particularly in upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
“The Executive Council and the Regional Football Chairmen shared the nation’s disappointment with the Head Coach at the meeting and the desire of all Ghanaians that the nation qualifies for the World Cup, hence the demand for better performance and results in the upcoming games, especially in the World Cup qualifying matches.”
“The Head Coach was informed that the Association would be holding further consultations with members and key stakeholders in the football ecosystem to enable the Association to come up with a comprehensive plan for the national team.”
Otto Addo, who signed a three-year contract extension in March this year, has seen the Black Stars endure one of their most challenging campaigns.
Ghana finished at the bottom of Group F in the AFCON qualifiers, recording three draws and three losses.
For the first time in 20 years, the Black Stars will miss the prestigious tournament, set to take place in Morocco next year.
