GFA to hold emergency meeting with Premier League clubs after fan’s death

-

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to convene an emergency meeting with Premier League clubs on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 11:00 am.

This urgent gathering follows the violent incident during Sunday’s match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at Nana Kronmansah Park, which resulted in the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, known as Nana Pooley.

The GFA has stated that the meeting will focus on addressing critical security concerns and related issues, including stadium safety, fan behaviour, and emergency response protocols.

The association emphasized its ongoing efforts to improve the football experience in Ghana, and this meeting marks an important step in that direction. They expect clubs to respond promptly to the invitation.

In a related development, the GFA has announced the postponement of the Matchday 20 fixtures scheduled for this weekend.

Both Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko have strongly condemned the violence and pledged full cooperation with authorities in the ongoing investigation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor has been appointed to lead the investigation into the incident.
