GFA President Kurt Okraku to meet Asante Kotoko today

-

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, is set to visit Asante Kotoko later today to discuss security concerns in Ghanaian football.

Okraku will meet with the club’s leadership at their secretariat at 13:00 GMT as part of efforts to enhance safety at football venues following the tragic death of Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.

Pooley was fatally stabbed at Nana Kronmansah Park during the Matchday 19 fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko, sparking widespread calls for stronger security measures at league matches.

In response, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak released a joint statement demanding improved security. Okraku subsequently met with representatives of both clubs on Monday at the GFA headquarters in Accra.

Today’s meeting is expected to focus on concerns specifically raised by Kotoko in their statement.

Following Pooley’s death, the Ghana Premier League was suspended, and Asante Kotoko announced they would not participate in any competitive matches until justice is served. Their FA Cup Round of 16 clash against Sekondi Eleven Wise, initially scheduled for this week, has also been postponed.

Despite this, Kotoko resumed training on Wednesday at Adako Jachie, with 19 players participating in the session.
