GFA President Kurt Okraku determined to see Black Stars in major tournaments

Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the Black Stars compete in all major international tournaments.

Despite being four-time African champions, Ghana has struggled in recent years, failing to make a significant impact on the continental stage.

Their early exits in the last two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments—held in Cameroon and Ivory Coast—were followed by their failure to qualify for the 2025 edition, marking the first time in 20 years that the team will miss the competition.

However, Okraku remains determined to turn things around.

“I want Ghana to be present at every international meet,” he told freelance journalist Alexis Laura Ehiagwina as reported by 3Sport.

“I will never, never be happy that Ghana will not be at the AFCON, but that is the reality of life. I think hard lessons have been learnt by everybody, me inclusive.

“I’ll go out there to Morocco to watch the tournament, to be part of the group. Obviously, I’ll love Ghana to be there while I’m there. I hope that the players, technical team, and everybody within the space will definitely not be happy that we are not regretful, and that should be a motivation to all of us as far as our responsibility and duties towards national engagements are concerned,” he added.

The Black Stars will now shift their focus to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. They are set to face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, 2025, before traveling to Morocco for a Group I clash against Madagascar on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Preparations will begin on Monday, March 17, 2025, when the team assembles in Accra.
