The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reaffirmed its dedication to reviving the success of the Black Stars following their disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
For the first time in two decades, the Black Stars failed to qualify for the AFCON, finishing at the bottom of their group without a single win.
This marks a significant low point for the team, which has long been a symbol of national pride.
In response, the GFA held a review meeting with Head Coach Otto Addo to analyze his technical report. According to a statement released on Friday, the GFA conveyed the widespread dissatisfaction of Ghanaians with the team’s recent results to the coach.
The statement also emphasized the association’s commitment to hosting a stakeholder forum to gather input from fans and stakeholders on strategies to reverse the decline of the Black Stars.
“The GFA remains committed to taking holistic decisions, in conjunction with key stakeholders for the good and growth of Ghana football, with a strong emphasis on the senior national football team, the Black Stars. This process will be enabled by the collective will and single-minded focus to restore the glory of the Black Stars,” the statement said.
Adding to the team’s struggles, Ghana’s Black Stars have dropped to 77th in the latest FIFA World Rankings following their AFCON qualifying campaign.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars are set to regroup in March 2025 to begin their qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup, with matches against Chad and Madagascar.
