The National Nasara Coordinator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Aziz Haruna Futa, has disclosed that Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif has recommended to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to dismissal of Ghana Black Stars coach, Otto Addo.
The 47-year-old coach has faced intense criticism following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana finished last in Group F with just three points, recording three draws and three losses over six matches during the qualifiers.
In the wake of a recent meeting to review Otto Addo’s technical report, the GFA is yet to decide on the coach’s future.
However, in an interview with Happy FM, Haruna Futa, who is a former management member of Hearts of Oak, revealed that the Sports Minister has urged the GFA to relieve Addo of his duties due to the team’s poor performance.
“It is government that pays Otto Addo and that is taxpayers’ money but on that, government cannot sack Otto Addo,” he said.
“The only thing government can do is to advise the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to sack Otto Addo and the Minister (Mustapha Ussif) has done that,” he added.
Otto Addo was appointed in March this year on a three-year contract, succeeding Chris Hughton, with an option for a two-year extension.
