GFA demands $14.7m from Sports Ministry’s $10.7m budget

The Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, has expressed concerns over the GH¢63 million (US$14,678,700) being demanded from the ministry’s budget of GH¢46 million (10,717,800) by the Ghana Football Association.

According to Asiamah, the huge amount is what the GFA presented to his office as their budget for the year, covering the various national teams.

Making the revelation at the launch of Ghana’s participation in next year’s Commonwealth Games on Tuesday, the Minister indicated that his office is already faced with financial constraints despite receiving a 100% increment in their allocation from the national budget.

“Let me give you a case of the constraints we have. If you take the budget of one discipline, football for example, we have about 8 national teams for football. Their budget alone is GH¢63 million for this year, that is what they brought to us so you can imagine,” the Minister said.

This means over 30 other federations will struggle if this amount is doled out to the Football Federation this year.
