GFA chief hints at announcing new sponsorships

Head of Public Relations Strategy at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe has revealed that the Association is on the verge of securing new sponsorship deals for the Ghana Premier League.

The 2024/25 season kicked off without a title sponsor after betPawa withdrew its support halfway through the previous campaign.

In a recent interview on Asempa FM, Armstrong-Mortagbe highlighted the administration’s successful track record in raising sponsorship funds, boasting an impressive revenue growth of over 23 million cedis in the past four years.

“From when we finished this league until now, it’s been quite a short period, full of many activities, but this administration has done it in the past,” Mortagbe said in an interview played on Asempa FM.

“[We] raised sponsorship from 2.3 million to 23.1 million. In four years, that’s a 909% increase. The expertise is there.

He acknowledged that while the enthusiasm for sponsorship may not be as strong as before, it remains their responsibility in public relations, marketing, and business development to secure the necessary resources to elevate the league.

“The appetite may not be what it used to be, and it’s our job in PR, strategy, marketing, and business development to ensure that we secure the resources needed to support our league so that our talents stay a bit longer, light up our fields, and make the game as enjoyable as we want it to be.

“So, there’s a lot of work going on, and I’m sure that in due course, we will be announcing the relevant sponsorships that have come through,” he added.

Despite the lack of a headline sponsor, the matchday 3 of the Ghana Premier League is set to take place across various venues.
