Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, has urged a shift from focusing on past successes to prioritizing the reconstruction of Ghana’s football framework.
Football in Ghana has seen a significant decline, highlighted by the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) — a first in over two decades.
Discussing the struggles of the Black Stars and other national teams, Oduro Sarfo emphasized the need for patience and a strategic, long-term vision.
“Ghana, we are living in the past glories,” he told Asempa FM. “We need to be thinking of rebuilding. We need to forget about trophies and glories while rebuilding. We want quick results, but that approach is not sustainable.
He further emphasized that developing a cohesive plan for football growth is essential to restoring Ghana’s prominence in the sport.
“We need to give ourselves time and rebuild. Quick fixes will not solve our problems. It’s about creating a solid foundation for future success.” he added.
Following their disappointing 2025 AFCON qualifiers, the Black Stars will aim to bounce back as they prepare to face Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers this March.
