GFA assures Ghana Premier League will resume soon

The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, has assured that the Ghana Premier League will resume soon following its recent suspension.

The league was halted after the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong during the Matchday 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC. As a result, Matchday 20 games were postponed.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Prosper Harrison Addo confirmed that while the league will not resume this weekend, efforts are being made for a swift return.

“We are moving together and want to bring everybody along. We will make that engagement and announce a date soon,” he stated.

In response to the incident, the GFA has introduced enhanced safety and security protocols, including the appointment of Club Safety and Security Officers and the installation of CCTV cameras at match venues.

Clubs that fail to comply with these measures could face sanctions, including a GH₵20,000 fine and a venue ban.
