The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a one-week suspension of all football competitions in December to facilitate participation in the country’s upcoming general elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the GFA explained that the break, beginning after this weekend’s matches, is intended to allow players, officials, and fans to fulfill their civic duties during the elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
According to the GFA’s 2024/25 season calendar, the competitions affected by the pause include the Ghana Premier League, Access Bank Division One League, Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, and the MTN FA Cup Round of 64 games, as well as Matchday 6 fixtures of the women’s league.
The leagues are scheduled to resume on the weekend of Friday, December 13, 2024.
The GFA emphasized that clubs and match officials had already been informed about the planned suspension, with this announcement serving as a reminder.
