The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League (GPL) will officially resume on Friday, March 7, following an announcement from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The league had been suspended for three weeks due to the tragic killing of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley, during a Matchday 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Kronmansah Park.
According to the GFA, the league’s return is contingent upon ongoing safety and security inspections at all venues, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
In a bid to prevent future incidents of hooliganism, the Ghana FA has recently trained stakeholders on enhanced matchday safety and security protocols.
Asante Kotoko, who initially vowed to withdraw from all football competitions until justice was served, have now confirmed their return to competitive action on March 6.
Meanwhile, Kotoko’s postponed MTN FA Cup clash against Sekondi Eleven Wise has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
The FA has also announced new dates for upcoming Premier League fixtures:
- Matchday 20: Tuesday, March 18 – Thursday, March 20
- Matchday 21: Tuesday, April 1 – Thursday, April 3
- Matchday 22: Tuesday, April 15 – Thursday, April 17
With these adjustments, Ghanaian football fans can look forward to the league’s highly anticipated return under improved safety measures.
