George Boateng in contention for Blackburn Rovers managerial role

Former Ghana assistant coach George Boateng is in contention for the vacant managerial position at Blackburn Rovers.

The English Championship club is searching for a new head coach following John Eustace’s move to Derby County.

Boateng, a former first-team coach at Coventry City, served as an assistant coach under Chris Hughton and Otto Addo in Ghana’s technical setup.

He also boasts experience coaching youth teams, having managed Blackburn Rovers’ academy side as well as Aston Villa’s U18 and U21 teams.

A former midfielder, Boateng had a distinguished playing career with Coventry City, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest.

However, Boateng faces stiff competition for the Blackburn job, with former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil, Braga’s Carlos Carvalhal, and ex-Young Boys coach Raphael Wicky also on the shortlist.

With just 15 matches remaining in the season, Blackburn—currently sitting fifth in the Championship—is pushing for a playoff spot.

The club’s management is under pressure to make a swift appointment ahead of a crucial fixture against Plymouth Argyle this weekend.
