Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has disclosed a key clause in Otto Addo’s contract, which allows the GFA to terminate his appointment due to the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The 47-year-old head coach has faced mounting criticism after Ghana finished last in Group F, managing only three points from six matches. This disappointing performance has led to widespread calls for Addo’s dismissal.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite, Afriyie revealed that Addo’s contract includes specific performance-related targets, notably AFCON qualification.
He asserted that the coach’s inability to meet this crucial requirement warrants his removal.
In response to the situation, the GFA Executive Council is set to convene today, November 20, to review the team’s performance and decide on the way forward.
This marks Ghana’s first absence from the AFCON tournament in two decades, signaling deeper challenges within the country’s football structure.
