Gender Ministry to open bid for caterers to apply for school feeding contracts

-

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has announced that it will soon open the bidding process for caterers interested in securing contracts to provide meals for schools under the School Feeding Programme.

According to the Gender Minister, Darkoa Newman, prospective caterers will be required to create an online profile at a fee of GH₵200 as part of the application process.

She noted that, this new recruitment is specifically for the 2024/2025 academic year, which begins in September.

“All prospective caterers are welcome to apply. There are specific requirements that must be met because the Ghana School Feeding Programme needs to ensure that you can pre-finance. As you know, payments are made after the term ends, so it’s crucial to demonstrate your ability to pre-finance,” she stated during a press briefing on August 8.

“You should have about GH₵5000 in an account to show proof that you can pre-finance, and that should suffice,” she added.

In addition to financial requirements, prospective caterers will need to obtain a business operating permit, a health certificate, and other necessary documents, which will be detailed in an upcoming publication.

Ahead of this, the Gender Minister announced that a pilot system would be tested in the New Juaben South constituency in the Eastern Region and Krachi East in the Oti Region.

These areas were chosen due to their internet connectivity, which is vital for the online application process.

“The pilot will serve as the final trial for these areas. Once the national rollout begins, those who have been employed through the pilot system will not need to go through the process again,” she explained.

The Minister also assured that caterers who provided meals during the previous term have been paid for the first term, and efforts are underway to clear the outstanding debt for the second term.
